I bought a car off Craigs list and found out it had salvage title?
I bought a 96 Honda Accord off Craigs List and recieved a clean registration and title and went to register it in my name and was told by the DMV that it had been salvaged in 2007. The add clearly states that it has a clean title and I want to give the car back and he offered to help me sell it. What are my best options?

Call and tell him you want your money back because he failed to disclose it is a salvage title.
If he fails, get a lawyer or file for a small claims lawsuit.
Sorry Sharp- when someone advertised a clean title, it means the title has never been branded. Your dead wrong.
It cost me $26.14 to file a small claims lawsuit. If you win, you will get that money back also.
A clean title means a title (vehicle) has never been branded. Lien has nothing to do with it.
A clean title means, there was no financial liens against it, thats all. A salvage title , is for a vehicle that was bought by an Ins. Co. and then sold.
Get a lawyer’s advice. If he is in the same state as you what he did may be illegal. Some states will allow a salvage title to be cleaned up while others don’t. If your state doesn’t then it’s possible you have a good case for charges of fraud against the seller.
I do believe sellers must disclose if the car has a salvage title. You can take him to court.
Sharp is right. Title is clean means there are no liens. The car must’ve checked out ok for the buyer, and it can be registered. Seller wins. Buyer wins too. If the car was totaled in 07 it was 11 years old. It doesn’t take much to total a cheap car. Buyer should enjoy the car and forget the title concern.
You can easily go on small claims court. (if price of the car is not more than $5000). Clean title DOES mean (beside everything else) that it is *not* salvaged, which means that you are victim of the fraud. You’ll get your money back.
Ask the seller for your money back or you will sue him. In many states a seller is responsible for informing a buyer of a previous salvage title at the time of sale.
It costs money to sue in small claims and even if you win, it doesn’t mean the other person is going to hand you money, its up to you to collect it.
All that said, on a 96 Honda, the valuation difference cant be that much.
If you do sell it, be sure YOU disclose it or the other person might sue you.
