It depends on why its salvaged..

      pro; cheaper

con; could range from it falling apart in a week if it was a total wreck, to being perfectly fine if it was a theft recovery. also less resale value

Pro You’ll save a pile of money.
Con You’ll have a lot of difficulty reselling it.
Con You may buy one that should have stayed in salvage

So much depends on who fixed it an how. and how long you intend to drive it.

Pro’s: Cheap. Usually very cheap. Sometimes you can find a gem that just needs a good repair shop to do some work, and you can get a decent car for far cheaper.

Con’s: (heavily outweigh the pros) Salvage means the necessary work required to repair the vehicle correctly will cost more than the vehicle is worth. Also, after a decent impact, there are a lot of components on a car that may mess up down the road, things that can’t really be forseen. Without proper repair, the vehicle may stand a better chance of breaking down, or crumpling more in another accident. Also, these cars are often more expensive to insure, as they are at a higher risk or repeat accident or breakdown.

A salvage car is not really cheap. As there is always something wrong with it. If you keep it for good its OK.
But remember it doesnt matter how good is the condition of the car, you cannot sell it for a good price. A salvage car will always be a salvage car.

Well you can get it cheaper, but sometimes can’t get them insured, and of course resale may suck.

    • CarMan:

Some salvage cars have no damage. They could be theft recovered or part of a large group of dealer cars, some of which were damaged in hail storms, but all were totaled. Others have been wrecked and restored. Some may have had relatively easy-to-repair damages, others may have had serious frame damage. You must have enough knowledge about cars to be able to determine the good from the bad. Here’s an article that has more details:
